Testing Principle

The instrument employs mechanical measurement with three contact points touching the coating surface (two wheels and a pencil core) at a 45-degree angle between the pencil and test surface. As the instrument slides across the surface, the pencil creates corresponding tracks in the coating. By observing the marks created by different pencil hardness grades, the film hardness value can be accurately determined.
